CNC laser cutting machines play an important role in manufacturing processes due to their high precision and cutting efficiency; however, operational problems such as overheating often occur and can reduce machine performance and disrupt production continuity. General Background Overheating in CNC laser cutting machines is generally related to high operational loads, improper cutting parameter settings, and inadequate cooling system performance, particularly in the laser source component, which serves as the primary heat generator. Specific Background The method used in this study includes direct observation during industrial internship activities, interviews with operators and technicians, and problem analysis using a fishbone diagram and Value Stream Mapping. Knowledge Gap Existing operations lack systematic evaluations linking cooling system instabilities and non-optimal operating patterns to thermal failures in laser cutting equipment. Aims This study aims to examine overheating problems and determine root causes and corrective measures for CNC laser cutting machines. Results The results of the analysis indicate that overheating is mainly caused by instability in the laser source cooling system and non-optimal machine operating patterns. Novelty This work establishes an integrated framework combining fishbone root-cause analysis with Value Stream Mapping to optimize thermal management in CNC laser cutting lines. Implications Implementing proper adjustment of operating parameters, preventive maintenance, and cooling system optimization enhances the reliability and efficiency of CNC laser cutting machines.
Key Findings Highlights
- Overheating in computer numerical control laser cutting machines stems predominantly from high operational loads and unstable cooling system performance.
- Fishbone diagram analysis successfully maps core root causes across man, machine, method, material, and environmental categories.
- Implementing structured preventive maintenance and optimized operating parameters significantly reduces thermal downtime and stabilizes production continuity.
