Abstract

PT XYZ encounters a severe challenge regarding uneven operational workload distribution across 40 workstations within its shoe upper assembly line. This imbalance triggers material accumulation (bottlenecks) and excessive idle time, significantly undermining the overall manufacturing line efficiency. Addressing this issue is critical, as it continuously disrupts production flows, deflates labor productivity, and impedes the organization from satisfying its strategic output obligations. This investigation intends to appraise the output metrics of the manufacturing line by deploying the Ranked Positional Weight (RPW) approach. Adopting a quantitative framework, empirical data were gathered via systematic direct observations, field interviews, administrative documents, and duration monitoring utilizing a stopwatch time study. The analysis sequence incorporates normal time validation, standard time formulation, precedence diagram construction, and the operationalization of the RPW technique to reconfigure work cell allocation. The analytical results verify that the total workstation count dropped from 40 to 32 units, alongside an expansion in line efficiency from 36% to 80%, and a balance delay contraction from 64% down to 20%. These outcomes confirm that the RPW method successfully balance workloads across stations, minimizes inactive periods, and enhances structural manufacturing flows inside the shoe upper production division at PT XYZ
